What We Do

The Public Health Informatics Research Laboratory (PHI) has extensive experience in health-related research and development of multimedia-based training and instructional systems. The staff of PHI is multidisciplinary, bringing a wide variety of expertise to the development of interactive multimedia products, training, and simulation systems. PHI is building its research and training portfolio to examine how technologies can be applied to:

  • reducing disparities in morbidity and mortality for minority populations
  • improving health outcomes among children
  • designing online data collection and analysis tools
  • providing distance learning opportunities
  • creating interactive health education tools, such as games and simulations
  • helping communities to identify and analyze their public health concerns
  • facilitating scientific collaboration across disciplines and physical distances
  • evaluating health programs and policies
